Close the Shop by Name: One Person Company Exits

The decision is whether to stop the home shop, and what you must close if you stop. Whether the shop's monthly costs were ever enough to live on is a different question. This page does not include a cost sheet or a profit-and-loss template. It does not claim that most shops end in a certain number of months.

Signals that mean stop, not "try a new slogan"

Stop when any of these is true and you have written it down.

• You cannot name the next order you are obliged to finish, because there is no order, and you have no written buyer waiting.
• A refund, a subscription, or a platform hold is larger than the cash you set aside for it, and you cannot say when that cash returns.
• The offer you are still advertising is one you would not deliver this week.

A slow week is not the signal. The signal is an obligation you cannot meet, or an offer you have stopped being able to deliver. Do not cover that with a new logo.

What you close

Make a list with names, not moods.

• Orders still open: finish, refund, or write the date the buyer agreed to wait.
• Subscriptions you pay and subscriptions customers pay: cancel or transfer, and keep the confirmation.
• Accounts that can still charge you or still hold customer money: the shop, the payment tool, the ad account, the domain.
• Files you promised to keep available: the date you will turn them off, told to the buyers who paid.

A course that told you "never quit" is not an item on this list. Neither is a parent's idea of seven other incomes. Those are different decisions. They do not finish an open order.

What this page refuses

Should I keep the shop open so the account stays warm?

Only if the open orders and the refunds are already handled. A warm account that can still charge you is an open item, not a strategy.

Can I sell the remaining files in a farewell post?

Yes, if the post states the date the files go offline and you can still support them until that date. A farewell post is not a new product line.

What if a family member wants a say?

Ask them about the obligations on the list: who finishes the open order, who receives the refund. Do not ask them to supply a motivational reason to continue.
